OF CAPABILITIES Lt. Commander Bill Goss USN (Ret) served as a photojournalist and op-ed writer for Military.com with a monthly readership of four million military members. He has also served as a military analyst for Channel Four Eyewitness World News. Bill Goss is an inspiring speaker who has shared the podium with Bob Dole, Chuck Yeager, and many other renowned speakers. Bill Goss has served as a consultant/speaker for the British Broadcasting Network (BBC), National Institute of Health (NIH); National Cancer Institute (NCI); University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Institute; The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, American College of Surgeons Oncology Group, The University of Washington, The American Fighter Aces Association, American Melanoma Foundation and Duke University. A survivor of malignant melanoma caused by the sun, Bill has been cancer-free for over 14 years. He completed the 26.2 mile Jacksonville marathon and is a big believer in proper physical conditioning. Bill Goss has personally written articles that have been published in a variety of different magazines that covered a broad range of topics, from the safe piloting of military aircraft over the open ocean to issues of health and wellness, to battling malignant melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer caused by the sun. A former New Jersey golden glove boxer, Bill Goss is a self-defense expert who volunteers his expertise at a shelter for victims of domestic violence. He served as a spokesperson for the American Melanoma Foundation and was a founding board member of the Rudy Foundation for Kids. The Rudy Foundation is based upon the movie, RUDY, and its inspiring message to never give up on your dreams. 1975-1995: Enlisted U.S. Navy Mineman from 1974-1977; received his commission as a U.S. Naval Officer in 1980; received his Navy pilot wings in 1981. Received Outstanding Citizenship Award from both the Mayor and the Police Chief of Millburn-Short Hills, New Jersey, for physically chasing down on foot and apprehending a criminal suspect later found guilty of armed robbery. Enlisted in US Navy in 1974. Trained in underwater explosives as a Mineman working in various countries in throughout Europe. Honorably discharged in 1977. Received scholarship and GI Bill to attend Rutgers University. Commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy in 1980. Earned Navy Wings of Gold in 1981. Qualified to drop nuclear weapons on Soviet Submarines in 1984. Flew missions throughout the North and South Atlantic Ocean and Europe, 1982-85. Qualified as Senior Flight Instructor in the T-44 Pegasus Aircraft in 1986. Navy Instructor Pilot of the Quarter, 1986, Junior Naval Officer of the Year winner, Corpus Christi Navy League, 1986. Navy Pilot Writer of the Year, Approach Magazine, 1987. Qualified as Navigator and Underway Officer of the Deck of the nuclear aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson, while in the Pacific Ocean, 1990. Worked for Admiral in charge of Southeastern United States Navy District, 1993-94. Bill was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and two Navy Commendation medals, along with a variety of other awards, while serving in the U.S. Navy. Bill flew supersonic in dual seat F-18 Hornet in 1994. He was diagnosed with cancer the next day. Bill is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World.
